Week 47| Christmas & The Four Gift Rule

It's Black Friday Week... and lets not forget Small Business Saturday! I am sure that with Thanksgiving plans all intact many of us have moved on to planning the next holiday on the list or are at least thinking about it.

I know our children have started thinking about Christmas … their grandparents have inquired about their Christmas wishes, as well as a couple of their aunts. However, in our house Christmas took a different twist about five years ago. {You can check out my previous post about this topic here}

It was a little out of control - there were weeks, actually months that gifts would be without homes. Sometimes the gifts would NEVER even be touched. I realized at that point that we needed to change how we were doing Christmas in our house. There was just too much - not just at Christmas but throughout the year.

That's when I came across the Four Gift Rule on Pinterest and we've never looked back. It's quite simple - Something you want, Something you need, Something to wear & Something to read.

Our kids have always been extremely clever in organizing their lists to maximize the gifts received. And it still stands, yes - at 15 and 13, that Santa brings their want item. After all, if you don't believe, you don't receive. The other remaining gifts come from us, along with their stocking stuffers. I can tell you that there are still small gifts purchased for each child that are not on their list which allows for some "magic" to be left on Christmas morning.

Not only has this new method helped to cut down on the overload of gifts just lying around, it has allowed for wiser spending. Who doesn't want to spend less at the holidays while still pleasing everyone on your list. It's a total win-win! If you're struggling with the holidays or thinking of revamping your giving methods, I HIGHLY recommend this idea.
